given him credit for under-
standing the needs of his

I, personally, am committed
to this community. I would
love to see all of the congrega-
tions and Jews flock back to
Oak Park in droves, to see the
community shut down on
Shabbat and be able to live in
close harmony. But that's not
how things are, nor is such a
thing likely to happen.
Whatever the decision, B'nai
Moshe must decide on its
own. Does staying in Oak
Park mean sacrificing itself

have deliberately refused to
give them citizenship and
political power. It is hardly
sensible to negotiate ter-
ritorial dismemberment of
Israel as remedy to self-
induced Arab suffering, and
the sacrifice of the hard-won
Zionist heartland of Judea-
Samaria to a "Palestinian"
nationalism for the chimera
of "peace in our time."
The loyalty of the Israeli
government must be to the
lives of its Jewish citizens,
Jewish sovereignty and ter-
ritorial integrity. Those
Arabs who self identify as
"Palestinians" have made
their message clear with
rocks and firebombs. Arabs,
citizens or not, who cannot ac-
cept the legitimacy of a
Jewish state from Sea to
River, and are not-committed
to building the Zionist state
have no right to live in the
Jewish state and should be
deported. A few more Arab
enemies outside our gates are
better than a Fifth Column
within. Israel need no longer
tolerate their presence.

for the "good of the communi-
ty" or the opportunity for
growth? If it means sacrifice,
does the leadership (both lay
and religious) have the right
to terminate the life of this in-
stitution for Mayor Roths-
tein's ideal? Is such a subject
even appropriate to discuss?
These are matters of con-
cern to B'nai Moshe; not to
the public at large, nor to
Mayor Rothstein of Oak Park.
But, again, Charlotte Roths-
tein of Oak Park should join
us and become active. We
need committed Jews.

There is no Gaza, no West
Bank, no occupation and no
refugee problem in the Mid-
dle East that is not of the
Arab leaders' making, and
within their ample capacity
to resolve.
Poverty-stricken Pakistan
resettled tens of millions after
India's partition. Millions of
European families were
shuffled and resettled after
World War II. Israel absorbed
the million Jewish refugees
expelled from Arab countries
after 1949. National boun-
daries change; only the Arabs
reject their own.
Jordan was carved from

I

Jewish Palestine in 1947 as
the Arab Palestinian
homeland, but half-empty
Jordan forbids refugee settle-
ment — of people living next
door, related by language,
history, customs, blood and
religion. Israel evicted thriv-
ing Jewish settlements to
give Egypt every inch of
Sinai; Egypt cynically decries
"our Gazan brothers' suffer-
ing" and bars them from the
vacant land .. .
Arab claims against Israel
are a hoax.

A Good Offense
Is Best Defense

Why is the Israeli govern-
ment so defensive about the
current unrest in Gaza and
the West Bank? Now is the
time for a forceful presenta-
tion of the history of these
Arabs, who have been allow-
ed to fester in refugee camps
by their Muslim brothers .. .
Why do the current severe
tactics make headlines?
Because television footage of
Arab youths fearlessly throw-
ing stones and Molotov
cocktails at . Israeli troops
shows clearly enough that the
history of Israeli occupation
has taught them they have
little to fear. It is usually
Jewish blood that is spilled.
Would Syrian Jews dare to
throw stones at Syrian
troops? Would Russian Jews?
There, Jews are imprisoned
for carrying protest posters or
for teaching the Hebrew
language! These contrasts
should be put before the world
now. A good offense is the best
defense, and Israel has a
strong case. Resettlement of
the refugees in Arab lands is
far better for them and for
Israel than an indefinite
holding period in the camps.
