This year the best values in fur
will be from the people who make them!
mittee, comprised of churches
and synagogues who support
the institute, is being formed.
Lyons emphasized that the
institute does not rely only on
Jewish communal support.
Funds also come from the
Christian community as well.
At a recent fund-raising affair
at Carrail, patrons included
Jewish as well as non-Jewish
supporters. About $45,000
was raised at the event.
The institute also relies
heavily on volunteer support.
"The volunteer element is
very important," Lyons said,
adding that two persons, one
Jewish and one Christian,
have been engaged without
charge to coordinate
volunteers. Among the
volunteers' duties are helping
with mail, acting as dialogue
and youth dialogue group
leaders, keeping financial
records and speaking before
community groups.
Lyons said that he had tried
to make fund raising a "ma-
jor goal," but it never worked
out. Instead, he changed his
focus to programming. "We're
not here as an organization,
we are here as a program. The
funds always come when
you're doing the right kind of
program. That's our focus."
