Amnon Linn-Lipzin

Amnon-Linn-Lipzin has
been appointed director of the
Israel Government Tourist
Office for the Midwestern
U.S., according to the Israel
Tourism Ministry.
Linn-Lipzin, who is based
in Chicago, previously head-
ed the office from 1977 to
1982 and is responsible for
promoting tourism to Israel
by working with travel trade
organizations and through
the media.
Linn-Lipzin told The
Jewish News recently that
during its 40th anniversary
year, which is highlighted by
an Independence Day celebra-
tion on April 21, 1988, Israel
expects in excess of 1.5
million visitors, generating
more than $1.5 billion for its
economy.
Linn-Lipzin said that
70,000 tourists visited Israel
from the Midwestern U.S. in
1985, approximately 60-65
percent of them Jewish. He
said that Michigan generated
about 10,000 Israeli tourists.
The U.S. total for 1985 was
430,000.
The tourism office doesn't
utilize 1986 statistics since a
series of terrorist-related ac-
tivities led to a significant
reduction in U.S.-generated
tourism that year.
Linn-Lipzin said that
highlights of the 40th an-
niversary year include a
month-long Israel festival,
beginning May 14, sound and
light shows by the Israel
Defense Forces at Ramat Gan
Stadium, the performance of
the Babylonian-inspired
opera Nabucco at Sultan's
Pool in Jerusalem and a
month-long song festival in
the Negev in July.
