Parvine Motamed
Michigan Region, Women's
American ORT, will hold its
annual Capital Funds event
Nov. 3 at 8 p.m. in the Bloom-
field Hills home of Monica
and Norman Ziegelman. The
women will honor Franka
Charlupski.
Parvine Motamed, the
director of U.S.A. operations,
will be the featured speaker.
Iranian-born, Ms. Motamed
attended primary school in
Iran, secondary school in
Europe and universities in
Iran and Geneva,
Switzerland, obtaining
teacher and administrative
training. She holds a B.A.
degree in French, and a M.A.
in education and psychology.
She was one • of the first
women in Iran to attend an
institution of higher learning
which she entered after hav-
ing married and had two sons.
Beginning as an ORT
teacher in Iran in 1956, she
became acting director of the
ORT Girls' School for
Teachers in 1959, and the
director in 1960. After serv-
ing from 1970 to 1973 as the
assistant to ORT Iran's direc-
tor, Ms. Motamed was direc-
tor of ORT Iran until 1980,
overseeing a program encom-
passing secondary school,
junior college and teacher
training.
Following the closing of the
ORT operations in Iran due to
the political situation in that
country. Ms. Motamed went
to London, where she became
a senior officer of the World
ORT Union. Presently she is
the director of World ORT
Union operations in the
United States.
