Shaarey Zedek To Honor
Davidson For Bonds
William Davidson, prin-
cipal owner of the Detroit
Pistons Basketball Club, the
new Auburn Hills Arena and
Entertainment Center and
president of Guardian In-
dustries Corp., will be award-
ed the State of Israel's "Peace
Medal" at a tribute dinner
scheduled for Nov. 5 at his
synagogue, Cong. Shaarey
Zedek.
Davidson is an active leader
in Shaarey Zedek and has
held the role of general chair-
man of the tribute dinners for
several years.
Davidson is a past president
of Shaarey Zedek and is cur-
rently chairman of its endow-
ment. He is also a member of
the top-level President's Club
of State of Israel Bonds.
Additionally, he supports
numerous local organiza-
tions, among them the United
Jewish Appeal, which he
served as chairman, the
Hillel Day School of
Metropolitan Detroit, where
stands the William, Ethan
and Marla Davidson Wing,
and the University of
Michigan, where he has en-
dowed a visiting professorship
in business administration.
Davidson is the honorary
counsel in Michigan, and was
awarded an Officer Legion of
Merit, of the Grand Duchy of
William Davidson
Luxembourg. In 1985, he was
inducted into the Michigan
Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
Serving as general chair-
man of the dinner is David B.
Hermelin, who is interna-
tional campaign chairman for
Israel Bonds. Associate
general chairman is Paul Bor-
man; dinner chairman is Irv-
ing Laker. Honorary
chairmen include Gov. James
Blanchard; U.S. Senators
Carl Levin and Donald
Riegle, Max M. Fisher, Judge
Avern Cohn, Louis Berry,
Harold Berry and Mandell
Berman.

Senior Activities Start
With Games Day Sunday
There will be a games day
for senior adults to include
prizes and refreshments on
Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in Jaffe
Hall of the Jimmy Prentis
Morris Branch of the Jewish
Community Center. There is
a nominal charge.
A Book Fair video tape of
Sister Carol Rittner discuss-
ing her book The Courage to
Care will be shown at 9:30
a.m. Monday in the JPM
atrium.
Succot will be celebrated
when the senior adult choir
performs and refreshments
are served at 11:45 a.m. Mon-
day in the succah.
The second part of Puccini's
opera Madame Butterfly with
Placido Domingo, will be
shown on large screen video
at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Room
12.
Russian entertainers and
refreshments will help the
seniors celebrate Succot at
11:45 a.m. Tuesday in the
succah.
Samuel Saxer will discuss
investments for seniors at 1
p.m. Tuesday in the assembly
hall of the JPM.
The second part of the
movie When My Baby Smiles
at Me with Dan Dailey and
Betty Grable will be shown in
the JPM assembly hall at 2
p.m. Tuesday.
The senior adult dancers,
the Kazoo Band and accor-
dionist Itzhak Percupitz will
perform and refreshments
will be served at the succah at
11:45 a.m. Wednesday.
Games, Dance
For The Seniors
The senior adult depart-
ment at the main Jewish
Community Center will open
its games room in room 239
on Monday at 10 a.m.
Refreshments will be provid-
ed. Seniors may stay for lunch
and participate in the after-
noon program as well.
