the potential future coex-

Nazareth Mayor Tewfiq

and Charley Biton, the Com-
munist MK, were both more
impulsive, but might have
given a better image of Israeli
society with all of its internal
contradictions.
The PLO suddenly said it .

Israeli government itself.
Neither Arafat nor the other
Palestinians present were
prepared to commit

their reference to UN resolu-

Pope's Visit
Helps Exhibit
Philadelphia — Profits from
the sale of Welcome — a
magazine devoted to Pope
John Paul II's September
visit to America — will be us-
ed to help finance a traveling
exhibition of Judaica from the
Vatican Library, it was an-
nounced by Albert. Wood, a
spokesperson for the National
Committee for the Vatican
Judaica Exhibition. A
number of U.S. Catholic
charities will also benefit
from sales of the publication.
The Vatican Judaica Ex-
hibition contains Jewish
manuscripts produced bet-
ween the 8th and 18th cen-
turies. The works are on loan
from the Vatican Library's
collection of 800 Judaica
manuscripts. The exhibition
is at the Miami Center for the
Fine Arts.
Shabbat Nixed
For Graduation
New York — A federal court
in New York ruled last week
that a Long Island school
board must reschedule , its
, 1988 high school graduation
so that a Sabbath-observing
student can attend his high
school graduation without
violating his religious beliefs.
The lawsuit was filed by the
American Jewish Congress
on behalf of 17-year-old David
Smith who alleged that the
North Babylon School
Board's decision to hold
graduation exercises on a
Saturday violated Smith's
First Amendment right to
free exercise of religion.
