Jabotinsky
Award Winners
Announced

Soviet Jewish refusenik Ida
Nudel, Israeli diplomat
Shlomo Argov, Israeli
scholar/writer Israel Eldad
and the late U.S. civil rights
leader Bayard Rustin are the
recipients of the 1987
Jabotinsky Award.
The $100,000 award has
been presented annually
since 1983 to men and women
who "stand up in defense of
the rights of the Jewish peo-
ple." It will be conferred in an
October 28 ceremony at the
Museum of Modern Art in
New York.
The proceeds from the
award will be divided equal-
ly among the recipients. The
$25,000 that would have gone
to Rustin, who died last
month, will be used to
establish a scholarship to give
black students in America
the opportunity to study in
Israel.
"We hope this will continue
Mr. Rustin's work and
dreams," said Eryk Spektor,
chairman of the Jabotinsky
Foundation.
Rustin received the award
for his strong and consistent
support of Israel and his ad-
vocacy abetter black-Jewish
harmony. Nudel was selected
for "her selfless and tireless
work on behalf of the Jewish
Prisoners of Concscience in
the Soviet Union!'
Argov, Israel's former Am-
bassador to Britain, was
seriously wounded in London
in 1982 by Arab terrorists. He
was awarded because he rep-
resents "the danger and
perils to which Israeli Foreign
Service officers are exposed in
a hostile world?'
Eldad was honored as a
"leading advocate of national
Zionism."
