FRIDAY:7SEFF:

Greeting

Continued from Page 134

we hope that after forty years
of wandering in the desert of
war shall we come to the pro-
mised land of peace.
Together, we have been able
to overcome the most daun-
ting obstacles. Together, we
have been able to realize a
dream few deemed possible.
lbgether, we can pave the way
for a future that will surpass
even the incredible
achievements of the past.
I wish the whole House of
Israel a Happy New Year
5748. May it be a year of con-
solidation, peace, and further
progress for Am Yisrael and
Eretz Yisrael.

&Responsible
For Employee'

New York — a department
store whose employee marked
a swastika on a washer-dryer
purchased by an Chasidic rab-
bi is responsible for the ac-
tions of its salesperson,
AJCongress has told New
York's appellate division, sec-
- cond department.
The case, Rabbi Chezkel
Horowitz vs. Sears Roebuck
Co., arose when Rabbi
Horowitz, a survivor of the
Nazi Holocaust, entered a
Sears store in Rockland
County, N.Y., to purchase a
washer-dryer. The salesman
who served him was alleged-
ly rude, referred to Rabbi
Horowitz's Chasidic affilia-
tion in a derogatory manner
and told Horowitz, in
response to an inquiry, that
there was "no C.O.D. for
Jews!'
When the washer-dryer ar-
rived at Rabbi Horowitz's
houst, each one was marked
with a swastika. Sears offered
to provide replacements and
fired the salesman involved in
the incident, but only if Rab-
bi Horowitz paid another in-
stallation charge. He refused
the offer and removed the
swastikas himself.

AIDS Drug
Developed

Tel Aviv — A drug which
may prolong the lives of AIDS
and cancer sufferers has been
developed by Israeli scientists
at Bar-Ilan University. Call-
ed AS 101, it is a biological
substance developed in Israel,
but tested on patients in
Mexico.
According to Prof. Shmuel
Salzberg, who heads the
research, AS 101 stimulates
the immune system to pro-
duce lymphocytes to fight in-
fection. The drug was approv-
ed by the U.S. in June.
