Don't Ask
A Mermaid

New York — The Rabbinical
Concil of America says it is
dismayed at statements at-
tributed to the Chief Rab-
binate of Israel regarding the
production of Chicken-of-the-
Sea Tuna Fish manufactured
in Bangkok, Thailand and ex-
ported to Israel.
"The OU supervisory pro-
cedures for tuna fish were
developed many years ago in
conjunction with the Rabbinic
Kashruth Commission of the
Rabbinical Council of
America in consultion with,
and approved by, Harav
Hagon Joseph B. Soloveit-
chik, shlita," an RCA press
release states. "In fact, we are
informed by the Chief Rab-
binate of Jerusalem that
these are the same pro-
cedures that are followed in
Jerusalem and that, conse-
quently, it has approved the
use and sales of the OU tuna
in that city."
The Rabbinical Council of
America reaffirmed its en-
dorsement of the OU kashrut
supervission of the tuna fish.

Interest Sections
Established

Geneva (JTA) — Israel and
Hungary signed an agree-
ment in Bern Monday to
establish interest sections in
their respective countries. It
is the lowest level of
diplomatic representation but
could be a precursor to
stronger ties in the future.
The signing ceremonies,
which lasted an hour, were
held in private. At the request
of the Hungarians, no media
was allowed.
Reporters remarked that
the Hunarians emerging
from the ceremony, looked
grim, "more like returning
from a funeral."

Yarmulke Bill
In Senate

Washington (JTA) — The
Religious Action Center of
Reform Judaism urged Sept.
16 that all Jews act im-
mediately to press their
senators to support a bill
allowing members of the arm-
ed forces to wear yarmulkes.
The legislation is being in-
troduced by Sen. Frank
Lautenberg (D-N.J.) as an
amendment to the Depart-
ment of Defense Authoriza-
tion Bill which is currently
being considered by the
Senate.
The bill was narrowly
defeated in the Senate last
