than 100 of their Israeli
counterparts at a major U.S.-
Israel trade conference in
Washington, D.C., Oct. 18-20.
It will be co-hosted by U.S.-
Trade Representative Clayton
Yeutter and Israel's Minister
for Industry and Trade Ariel
Sharon.
The conference is entitled,
"The Free Trade Area Agree-
ment: A Model for Coopera-
tion — A Partnership for
Growth."
Speakers will include
former presidential advisor
Robert Strauss, U.S. Am-
bassador to Israel Thomas R.
Pickering, U.S. Senator Bob
Packwood (R-Ore.); U.S.
Representative Tam Downey
(D-N.Y.); international trade
and economic specialist
Herbert Stein; and,
Washington Post business col-
umnist Hobart Rowen.

Kids' Books
Program Set

The Southfield Public
Library Battle of the Books
program is now being offered
to sixth and seventh graders
who live or attend school in
Southfield or Lathrup
Village.
The kickoff meeting is on
Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in the
Marcotte Room of the library,
and all those who wish to par-
ticipate should bring a team
of four to six members and an
adult to serve as team
sponsor.
Students unable to get a
complete team should attend
the meeting and teams will
be formed.

hundreds of events and per-
formances to be conducted
during the next 18 months in
celebration of Israel's 40th
anniversary has been issued
by the National Committee
for Israel's 40th Anniversary.
The committee is the na-
tional coordinating body and
clearinghouse for anniversary
activities under the auspices
of the Conference of,
Presidents of Major American
Jew Organizations.
