ADWE
Otherwise, it's up to me," says
Schloss, who still works days at
Kline's. A millionaire I'll never
be, but it pays the bills."
Despite the company's small
size, Shabat is sold in most
pharmacies in Jewish neighbor-
hoods in New York City as well
as in upstate New York, Cleve-
land, Detroit and as far away as
Belgium.
"There's basically no competi-
tion," says Schloss. "It doesn't
pay because of the cost in-
volved. What are they going to
come up with that's better than
mine? It can't be smoother and
creamier, as with other makeup
lines. They could make more
colors, but I can make more
colors if I want." EJ

NEW
COLORS
IN DENIM
This season, jeans manufact-
urers have pulled out all the
stops. There are tie dyes, over
dyes, super blacks and new
earth tones to choose from.
Tie dyeing was popular in the
late '60's. No two tie dyes are
alike, and the color combina-
tions are limitless.
Over dyed jeans first ap-
peared on the scene in 1982
and rapidly went from instant
success to oblivion in just a few
short months. The original idea
was good but the market be-
came oversaturated and many
thought the colors were too in-
tense. With the advent of the
stone-washing process, sudden-
ly over dyes look right again.
