Here's some
that will last you
a lifetime.
The Association for
Retarded Citizens wants
to make sure that if you
plan to have children,
they turn out to be
happy, healthy children.
So we suggest you
follow four basic rules
before you conceive a
child:
1. Follow habits of
proper nutrition.
2. Avoid alcohol and
tobacco.
3. Beware of too much
exposure to X-rays.
4. Ask your doctor
about genetic
counseling if mental
retardation of
unknown cause has
occurred in your
families.
For more good advice,
call or write your local
unit of ARC, the
Association for Retarded
Citizens.

Restaurant Patrons
Seek Truth in Menus
T
ruth in menu is very
important for con-
sumers but, sorrily,
not highly enforced by the
government . . . However,
restaurant customers have
become more and more aware
of menu falsehoods . . . and
are shying away from places
with them . . . the feeling be-
ing that if they'll lie on their
menu, it's highly probable
that they're not doing so right
in the kitchen.
Restaurateurs, especially
those who have never been in
the dining game before,
should take cognizance and
beware of menu falsehoods
. . . it can ruin their business
. . . This is also of course, very
true for experienced
restaurateurs who should
know better.
If restaurants want to stay
in business today, of prime
importance is to remember
that saying about being able
to fool some of the people
some of the time . . . Use of
plain common sense in
preparing menus is an
especially good rule . . . In
other words . . . say it as it is.
ERRATA . . .The Wilshire
Hotel, where Ann Sayles Din-
ing Room was located years
back . . . before moving to
Seven Mile and Livernois .. .
and today at 13 Mile east of
Greenfield . . . was on the cor-
ner of Third and Collingwood,
not Grand Blvd.
A
NAME
SYNONYMOUS with ex-
cellent food and pastries in
the Birmingham/Bloomfield
areas for over 50 years,
Machus Enterprises, has
been named restaurateur for
the Auburn Hills Arena.
"Machus is widely recogniz-
ed as one of the finest
restaurant establishments in
the area," says Thomas
Wilson, of Arena Associates.
"Their trademark of high
quality cuisine and outstan-
ding service represents the
caliber of gourmet dining we
want to provide our guests
and suiteholders."
The award-winning Machus
will operate the arena's full-
service restaurant, banquet
facility and cocktail lounge
(capacities of 250, 300 and
150), as well as cater 180 lux-
ury suites.
The dining, banquet and
suite catering operations will
feature extensive menus in-
cluding seafood, poultry, beef
and dessert specialties legen-
dary to the Machus name .. .
Gourmet chefs will prepare
delicacies on the premises
daily and accommodate
special menu requests . . . A
wide variety of premium
wines and champagnes will
also be available.
The 20,000 seat multi-
faceted Auburn Hills Arena,
future home of the Detroit
Pistons, will showcase a
panorama of premier enter-
tainment and sporting events
including major concerts,
family entertainment spec-
taculars, such as circuses and
ice shows, and collegiate pro-
fessional sporting events.
It is scheduled to open in
the fall of 1988.
INTERNATIONAL HIT
musical 42nd Street opens the
Birmingham Theater's
1987-1988 season with a five-
week engagement . . . Sept. 9
through Oct. 11.
It's an electrifying song and
dance extravaganza about a
stagestruck kid in the chorus
who becomes a star because
"the show must go on!"
But the plot is just the hook
on which to hang explosive,
sky-high-energy dance
numbers to the songs of
1-19rry Warren and Al Dubin
. . . Lullaby of Broadway,
Shuffle Off To Buffalo, We're
In The Money, You're Getting
To Be A Habit With Me, the ti-
tle song, etc.
The David Merrick musical
was the last show directed
and choreographed by the
late Gower Champion . . . It
won the 1981 Tony Award for
Best Musical . . . (Ruby
Keeler and Dick Powell star-
red in the movie version.)
With glitzy, glamorous
costumes, spectacular sets
and an all-New York cast,
should be a razzle-dazzle
opening production for the
Birmingham Theater.
THERE AREN'T too
many topics George Cantor,
Detroit News columnist, WWJ
commentator and Channel 7
TV personality can't discuss
. . . He can speak on just
about any subject . . . among
his favorites is the one he'll
lecture about, Sept. 29 at
Grosse Pointe War Memorial,
Lake St. Clair near Fisher
Rd. . . . "The Golden Age of
Music" . . . George has a
world of knowledge about the
Big Band era, the classic
songwriters of the '30s and
'40s and movie musicals that
include Fred Astaire . . . He is
being presented by the
Detroit Area Art Deco Socie-
ty . and a lot of folks. will
dig into the dusty old trunk
hidden in their attic for
clothing of the '30s and '40s
to wear that night . . . (garb is
optional).
