Two family friends will
share their b'nai mitzvah
Saturday morning at Adat
Shalom Synagogue.
Robert Pangborn and
William Mazer m will be
called to the bimah to read
from the Torah and chant the
Haftorah.
Pangborn and Mazer will
twin their b'nai mitzvah with
Vladimir Feltsman of
Moscow, a concert pianist who
has been denied the oppor-
tunity to concertize. All copies
of his performances on tapes
and records were destroyed by
the Soviets. U.S. Ambassador
Arthur Hartman had invited
Feltsman to play at Spasso
House, the ambassador's of-
ficial residence. Repeatedly
harassed, the Feltsmans were
recently given permission to
emigrate. Feltsman hopes to
resume his concert career in
the West.
Pangborn is principal per-
cussionist for the Detroit
Symphony Orchestra. Mazer
is a manufacturer's represen-
tative. The two men began
studying Hebrew in
November 1985 and began
studies with Cantor Larry
Vieder at Adat Shalom last
February.
