FRIDAY, JULY 10, 1987

da Timms.
Pauline and Leo Weiss tell
of celebrating Esther and
Dave Ginsburg's 37th an-
niversary at Rikki's . . . "The
grazing gourmet food is
wonderful. The general
manager, David Timms, very
friendly, and our waitress,
Julienne LaFeur, most char-
ming."
GOOD FOOD Dept. . . .
The chicken kebob at Rodos
in Farrell Shopping Plaza,
Southfield and 12 3/4 Mile .. .
tender and very tasty.
NEW LINE of ice cream
has been brought out by
Haagen-Dazs. It's called
"Special Additions" and now
available in both par-
ticipating Haagen-Dazs ice
cream shoppes and at
supermarkets.
"Special Additions" ice
cream has two different tastes
and textures that comple-
ment each other . . . fine ice
cream blended with unique
and exotic ingredients . . .
The new line includes
chocolate chocolate mint,
macadamia brittle and mocha
double nut.
SPEAKING of ice cream,
did you know that
Americans eat more ice
cream than anybody else,
with Australians a distant se-
cond, followed by Canadians
and New Zealanders? . . . that
according to the Interna-
tional Association of Ice
Cream Manufacturers, 56
percent of adults choose ice
cream as their favorite
dessert? . . . that most ice
cream is eaten between 9 p.m.
and 11 p.m. and more is eaten
on Sunday than any other day
of the week?

MAXINE SCHNEIDER-
MAN writes . . . "Our son,

whose job involves so much
air travel that I had to stop
him from emptying his
pockets before walking
through our front door on a
recent visit, brought me a
souvenir — a vintage 1939
menu from the legendary
Pump Room in Chicago.
The menu showed an im-
pressive wine list, including a
bottle of Mumm's Cordon
Rouge, 1928, for $8.
"The night's special was the
flaming sword dinner. To
begin with, a choice of ap-
petizers (select one from five,
plus relish in a bowl).
"The entrees, each served
on a flaming sword, I suppose,
included a choice of shashlick,
jumbo squab, chicken livers,
scallops or tenderloin of beef.
"All entrees came with
tomato brochette, potatoes du
jour, salad on wagon, dessert
on wagon and coffee. The tab
for the whole package was an
incredible $3.

"There was an announce-
ment printed at the bottom
that John Kirby and his band
play for supper dancing from
9:30 p.m. to closing, and
Saturday and Sunday
cocktail hour dancing from
4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
" ainda hard to believe,
isn't it I said to my son. 'A
gourmet dinner with fine
champagne for less than it
costs today for pizza and a
beer.'
" 'You're wrong, mom. You
can still get a great meal for
even less than that today,' he
said.
" 'Where on earth would
one find such a bargain?"
" 'Wherever one's mother
happens to live.'
"He said he'd rather have
Mom's than Mumm's any day.
And a baseball game on TV
after dinner beats the heck
out of John Kirby and his
band."

mornings at Sunrise Cafe in
New Orleans Mall, Ten Mile
and Greenfield . . . per-
sonable, fast and efficient.
ARE THOSE stories about
Northwest Airlines really
true? . . . Yes, says traveling
folksinger Judy Goldstein,
who recently returned from a
jet-setting week of perfor-
mance in Nashville, New Lon-
don, Indianapolis, etc.
"My luggage disappeared
somewhere between Hartford
and Indianapolis," says Judy.
"Once your luggage goes bye-
bye, you get to stand in a very
long line for a very long time
in order to fill out a very long
report on the missing items.
My clothing did catch up with
me though .. . right after my
final concert of the evening!"
Judy traveled by car next
time out, to Temple Beth El
in Flint . . . Instead of lug-
gage, she took her program
honoring Emma Lazarus and
parts of her newest concert,
Israeli Cabaret.

Positive
Attitudes

New York — Three prominent
Christians, one of them a U.S.
Congressman, recently told the
American Jewish Committee
that positive Christian at-
titudes toward Israel were
crucial for the Jewish State's
continued security and
survival.
They also indicated that, in
their experience, the more
Christians knew about
Judaism, Israel and the
Holocaust, the more likely they _
were to be sympathetic to the
Jewish State.
