All roads to the human
social consciences, to
generosity in its highest
terms led to home as well as
office of Joseph Jackier for
more than half a century.
An entire encyclopedic
record involving these many
qualities is unrolled in
relating the achievements of
the truly communal leader
who died June 29 at age 75.
With his wife, Edythe, Mr.
Jackier shared the highest
honor obtainable here when
he was given the Fred M.
Butzel Memorial Award by
the Jewish Welfare Federa-
tion for a lifetime of notable
services. The home-town
tribute was one of the
multiplicity of recognitions
gained by his untiring con-
tributions to the highest
goals in Jewish life.
His name is revered at the
Technion in Haifa, Bar-Ilan
University in Ramat Gan,
wherever there is an educa-
tional center both in Israel as
well as in this country.
Born in Nanticoke, Pa, Mr.
Jackier came to Detroit 50
years ago. He was graduated
from William and Mary Col-
lege, where he was elected to
Phi Beta Kappa, and from the
University of Michigan Law
School in 1936. He practiced
law in Detroit for 50 years
and had taught at the Wayne
State University Law School
for 25 years.
Mr. Jackier was a senior
member of the firm of Fried-
man, Meyers and Keys until
it merged in 1976 with the
firm of Schlussel, Lifton,

ty bears his name and in

Theological Seminary
bestowed on him its
Distinguished Service Award.
He was instrumental in the
establishment of the Jewish
Federation Apartments and
was the apartments' first
president. For this year's an-
nual Jewish National Fund
dinner, Mr. Jackier and his
wife served as general
co-chairmen.
Mr. Jackier was former
chairman of and served on
the steering committee of the
Federated Endowment Fund
