I had two delicious pieces of
mesquite-grilled salmon . .
brought by assistant general
manager Brenda Patrick
because of a help shortage .. .
Brenda is a perfect example of
how a waitress should be .. .
smiling, very personable and
most efficient . . . Two guests
with me had the unbelievable
ribs and chicken combo . . .
When one came, it was thought
to be for both ... . but then
another was placed on the table
. . .There's so much that it's not
unusual to take food home or to
the office . . . "Leftovers"are not
put in styrofoam or cardboard
boxes . . . Folks get them in
plastic containers with clear
plastic tops.
Even hot napkins with lemon
wedges are brought for each
person . . . And when was the
last time you saw more than
ten cars parked at this locale
. . . other than those by
employees?
Nancy Donald is Al's sweet,
charming and efficient general
manager at Blue Sky Bar-B-Q
& Seafood.
EXECUTIVE CHEFS have
- a reputation . . . either they're
at a place a long time . . . or
short . . . and moving . . . Too
bad a local magazine doesn't
realize this fact . and printed
to of Heinz
an article with pho
Menguser, then at Jacques on
Telegraph Rd.
Heinz had already been at
three places . . . Money Tree,
Lark and Drake before going to
Jacques.
Ray Schwartz, now executive
chef at Jacques, and a really
good one, comes after 32 years
in the kitchen of Pontchartrain
Wine Cellars downtown Detroit
. . . His culinary reputation
reached four-star prominence
during Ray's tenure there.
NANCY GURWIN Produc-
tions puts on South Pacific at
Mama Mia Theatre Under The
Stars on Cooley Lake Rd. at
Union Lake . . . opening tomor-
row night, 8:30 p.m. . . . Satur-
day night shows will be July 11,
18, 25, Aug. 1. and 8 with buf-
fet dinner prior to performances
. . . Nancy plays lead role of
navy nurse Nellie Forbush.
COUPLE OF
COUNTERMEN delicatessen
vets do their chores for owner
Sid Newman at his Star Deli,
W. 12 Mile west of 'Telegraph
. . . Iry Willis and Bob Winkle.
L'EXPRESS on Woodward
between 13 and 14 Mile roads,
formerly known as The Place,
has a different dance band each
week . . . this weekend Hot
Club is featured . . . they were
formerly with Bugs Beddow .. .

It's a beautiful New York style
spot with art deco embracing
fun-loving spirit that prevails
on the West Coast . . . A light
menu of sandwiches and snacks
only is Tuesday through Satur-
day . . . Dancing is Thursday,
Friday and Saturday . . . Many
folks are finding it the thing to
do . . . having dinner elsewhere
and going to L'Express for some
fun . . . Tuesdays are
Restaurant Employee Nights,
with drinks half off . . . and
Wednesdays are Ladies Nights
with drinks also half off.
IDEA FOR Straight From
The Heart cookbook at
Foland's, approved by the
American Heart Association,
was developed by Jerry Kroot,
chairman, Foland's Depart-
ment Stores . . . Came after his
doctor warned Jerry that his
own cholesterol level was high
. . . Concerned that he and
other Michigan residents were
damaging their health through
poor dietary habits, Jerry
began investigating the
possibility of creating a
cookbook that the average per-
son could use without being
fearful of consuming unhealthy
amounts of sodium, cholesterol
and fat . . . The cookbook has
also been designed as an educa-
tional tool in the effort to fight
cardiovascular disease . . .
Straight From The Heart
cookbooks ($11.75) are
available at all Foland's stores.
FELLOW CAME HOME
one day and found his wife in
tears . . . and asked, "What's
the matter honey?" . . .
Through her tears she cried,
"The dog ate the meat loaf I
made for you" . . . "Stop cry-
ing," - he said. "I'll buy you
another dog."
