The Irving and Sarah Pitt
Scholarship Foundation an-
nounces it will fund a major
Michigan college campus
leadership development pro-
gram.
The scholarship program,
which will provide funding
for participation in a wide
range of leadership develop-
ment activities, is open to
Jewish students who have
completed at least one semes-
ter of study at a Michigan
college or university and who
will be returning to their
campus at the completion of
the leadership program.
Criteria for the awards in-
clude scholarship, involve-
ment in Jewish communal
life, financial need and a
commitment to enhancing the
quality of Jewish life on
campus. The program is the
first of its kind in the United
States.
The Campus Leadership
Program is intended to
encourage participation in
any recognized program that
will enhance Jewish student
leadership. Scholarship sup-
port will be available for par-
ticipation in leadership de-
velopment programs in Is-
rael, such as the B'nai B'rith
Hillel Foundations' "Focus on
Israel" program, special
Hillel programs for Jewish
law, medical, business and
social work students, as well
as a new B'nai B'rith Hillel
leadership program for
selected students who' wish to
study at Israeli universities.

This program is designed to
prepare students to organize
and promote activities that
will increase awareness of Is-
rael and participation in Is-
rael programs on campus. Is-
rael programs sponsored by
the American Zionist Youth
Foundation, Progressive
Zionist Caucus and the Union
of American Hebrew Congre-
gations will also be funded.
The Irving and Sarah Pitt
Scholarship Foundation will
also award grants to students
to participate in a wide array
of leadership development
programs in the United
States, including national
conferences sponsored by
B'nai B'rith Hillel, AIPAC
and the Council of Jewish
Federations. Jewish law stu-
dents at Michigan univer-
sities may be eligible to par-
ticipate in the B'nai B'rith
Hillel National Jewish Law
Students' Network trip to the
Soviet Union with help from
the Pitt Foundation.

Jewish Law
Course Offered

A course in Jewish Law
will be offered at Wayne
State University Law School
during the Fall 1987 term.
The first class will meet at 6
p.m. on Sept. 1 at the law
school.
This class will be a regular
law school class for two cre-
dits, but it will be open to
students from other law
schools and to auditors from
the general public. Interested
parties should call the regis-
trar of the law school at
Wayne State University,
577-3978.
The course in Jewish Law
will be taught by Shlomo
Sperka, who is the director of
the Michigan Employment
Relations Commission of the
Michigan Department of
Labor.

Stuart Goldstein
To Direct JVS

Stuart Goldstein was
elected president of the
Jewish Vocational Service at
its annual meeting. Elected
with him were: Dennis S.
Kayes, Linda Klein, Susan
Miller, vice-presidents; Dr.
James Labes, secretary;
Norman Wachler, treasurer.
Elected for a term of three
years were: Rep. Maxine Be-
rman, Dr. Dennis Bernard,
Doug Etkin, Harvey Grace,
Marlene Handler, Kayes,
Greg Orley, Dr. Sheldon
Stern, Barbara Stone, Marvin
Talan.
JVS presented M. Jacob
and Sons, Sprayco Division,
with its Contractor of the
Year Award. Sprayco plastic
spray bottles are assembled
at JVS workshops and ship-
ped to 20,000 retail locations
nationally.
Precision Tune, Inc. re-
ceived the JVS Employer of
the Year Award. Under the
terms of an agreement with
the UAW and Ford Motor Co.
to provide placement, train-
ing and counseling services to
laid-off Ford workers, JVS
supervised an auto tune-up
technician course conducted
by Henry Ford Community
College.
A total of 17 of the
graduates of this course were
offered positions at Precision.
