Teens Celebrate
Peer's Freedom

Two local girls will share
their b'not mitzvah ceremony
with a Soviet girl who has
recently been allowed to emi-
grate to Israel at 8:45 a.m.
Saturday at Cong. Shaarey
Zedek.
Linsey Beck, daughter of
Dr. Sidney and Sharlene
Beck, and Marla Garfield,
daughter of Joel and Linda
Garfield, will celebrate the
freedom of Zhanna
Dragobetsky who, with her
family, received permission to
emigrate six weeks ago.
Zhanna's parents, Arkady
and Ira Dragobetsky, had
been harassed by KGB offi-
cers. When they applied for
exit visas in December 1976
they were refused on grounds
of "regime considerations."
This, in spite of the fact that
Dragobetsky served only as
an ordinary recruit in a con-
struction corps. The family
had lived in Chernovtsky,
Ukraine. Dragobetsky's par-
ents live in Akko, Israel.

YiIlia's mother, Zhanna,
holds a kandidat's degree in
music and taught music
teachers at a university until
- she applied to emigrate to Is-
rael in 1980. Following her
application, she was fired and
has not been able to find em-
ployment in her field. She
supports her family by work-
ing at odd jobs and with the
pension her mother receives.
