JPI Students
Are B'not Mitzvah

Six students from the
Jewish Parents Institute will
become b'not mitzvah at 8
p.m. Saturday at the main
Jewish Community Center.
Heather Davis, Erica
Bizaoui, Rachel Reymer, Ste-
fani Weber, Alaina Falick,
and Marla Lipson have each
completed 32 hours of com-
munity service, have studied
"Rites of Passage" literature,
have taken an introductory
course in Torah/Talmud, and
have completed a research
paper.
They are twinning their
b'not mitzvah with two Soviet
refuseniks, Roma Avadiaiev
of Derbent, whose family has
been refused since January
1975, and Evgenya Cher-
nobilsky of Moscow, whose
family has been refused since
1976.
A reception in honor of the
b'not mitzvah will be held in
room 333 following the cere-
mony.

David Hitsky will twin his
bar mitzvah Saturday at
Cong. B'nai Moshe with
Mikhail Yarzhembovsky of
Leningrad, USSR.
Mikhail's father, Stanislav,
was forced to quit his position
at the Oceanographic Re-
search Institute of the Soviet
Academy of Sciences after he
applied to emigrate to Israel
in 1977.
David has written the fam-
ily on a number of occasions,
and several of his letters
have been translated into
Russian by Soviet Jewish
families living in Detroit. To
date, he has not received a
response to his letters.
David is in the graduating
class of the Beth Achim
branch of United Hebrew
Schools and a member of the
mechinah class at United
Hebrew High School. His
parents, Alan and Deborah
Hitsky of Southfield, and
grandparents, Bernie and
Sylvia Indenbaum of West
Bloomfield and Stanley and
Fannie Hitsky of Naples,
Fla., will also participate in
the B'nai Moshe services.
