Eli Broad, chairman and
CEO of Kaufman and Broad,
Inc., will be guest speaker for
the Friends of Modern Art on
Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the
Detroit Institute of Arts. His
lecture is open to the public in
the museum Lecture Hall.
There is an admission charge.
Broad, a former Detroiter,
will discuss his own philosophy
of collections, and how it
changes between three with
which he is involved: A per-
sonal collection (the Eli and
Edye Broad Collection) of
modern and contemporary
masters (Matisse, Miro, Rothko,
Johns, Stella and Golub among
them); a Kaufman and Broad
corporate collection of work by
emerging Southern California
artists, and the Eli Broad Fami-
ly Foundation Collection, a
"museum without walls" loan
collection of contemporary
American art of the late 1970s
and 1980s.
Broad is one of the founders
of the Museum of Contem-
porary Art, Los Angeles, and
has received numerous cultural
and business awards and civic
honors.
