Dance Performances
Begin Tonight At OCC

Detroit Dance Collective
will present its spring con-
certs today and Saturday at 8
p.m. at the Royal Oak cam-
pus of Oakland Community
College, Lila R. Jones-
Johnson Theater.
The company of seven dan-
cers will celebrate its seventh
season by honoring Lora
Frankel at today's perform-
ance. Ms. Frankel, together
with the company, will greet
the audience at an afterglow
following the concert.
Former Detroiters, Jan
Puffer and Alan Danielson,
who are choreographing and
performing in New York will
appear as guest dancers and
will present two original
pieces. Artistic Directors
Barbara Selinger and Paula
Kramer will also present
their work, including Seling-
er's premiere of Woodland,
set to a commissioned score
by Detroit composer/
musician, Joseph LoDuca and
Journey, an ensemble work
with film. Kramer will pre-
sent a revised version of

Travelers On The Same Road

which draws its inspiration
from Holocaust images,
Picasso's painting, Guernica
and Ernst Barlach's sculpture
The Avenger that is on per-
manent exhibition at the De-
troit Institute of Arts.
Detroit Dance Collective is
the company in residence at
OCC where it conducts the
credit classes in modern
dance and ballet as well as
the non-credit program in
modern dance, ballet, jazz,
and creative dance for adults,
teens and children. The Col-
lective travels the state per-
forming concerts and lecture
demonstrations for audiences
of all ages as well as conduct-
ing workshops for developing
and career minded dancers.
There is a charge for the
concert and afterglow. Pro-
ceeds from the concert will
benefit the outreach program
for seniors and handicappers
sponsored by DDC.
