Chaim Presents
One-Woman
`Senesh' Play
CHAIM — Children of
Holocaust Survivors Associa-
tion in Michigan will bring
the one-woman playHannah
Senesh from Broadway to Or-
chestra Hall on May 17 at
7:30 p.m. for one performance
only.
Senesh was a high school
honor student when an anti-
Semitic experience triggered
her involvement in the
Zionist movement. At age 18,
she left her home in Hungary
to live on a kibbutz in pre-
state Israel prior to the start
of World War II.
But following Hitler's inva-
sion, Senesh returned with a
British paratroop unit to help
rescue her people from sense-
less slaughter.
Senesh was captured soon
after crossing the border from
Yugoslavia to Hungary and
was tortured for refusing to
betray her friends and her
cause by revealing radio
transmission codes. Four
months after she turned 22,
Senesh was executed.
This performance will be
CHAIM's annual fund raiser
to further Holocaust educa-
tion programs. Zelda Robin-
son, chairman of the Jewish
Community Council
Holocaust Subcommittee, will
be honored "for her work in
promoting Holocaust educa-
tion."
Chairing the event is Ar-
thur H. Kirsh, with Franklin
J. Ellias and Harry Eisen-
berg as co-chairmen. Also
working on the event are
Harriet Bakalar, Sarah Gor-
don, Sherry Lipson, Cynthia
Wagner, Jacob Burnstein,
Bernard Kent, Rosa Chessler,
Betty Rotberg Ellias, Gail
Gales, Eva Lipton, Charles
Silow and Eva Kraus. For
tickets or information, call
Kirsh, 557-6089, or Ellias,
352-1940.
