Another important question for
a prospective patient to consider
is how many cases like this does
a physician perform in a year's
time, Dr. Kapetansky believes.
He feels that referrals from other
physicans or a referral from a
hospital itself are the best ways of
finding a capable doctor.

How long will it last? Do
patients get caught up or
"hooked" on a cycle of plastic
surgery every seven or so years
once they start fly-specking for
flaws in the mirror?
Genetics play a part in the
aging process. How well your
parents have aged, and how well
you take care of yourself are
critical factors. Most physicians
feel that suntanning is a
complication in preserving the
effects of a cosmetic procedure.
"Plastic surgery does not stop
the clock," says Dr. Argenta.
"The aging process just
continues from that point. It's all
right to come back again for more
work — as long as the
expectations remain
reasonable."
Dr. Kapetansky believes even
more vigorously in the benefits,
even if they need to be repeated.
"Sometimes, especially with
menopausal women whose skin
tends to loose elasticity, you need
more than one operation to get
the optimal result.
"There is no such thing as a
face-lift 'falling-apart.' They don't
fall apart in ten years' time. You
are always better off for having
done the surgery," Dr.
Kapetansky believes. ❑
