major objective this year," said
Borman, "is to achieve the
greatest number of pledges at a
Campaign closing. This way,
we will have an accurate
number to work with when it
comes time to allocate those
funds."
As the pace quickens before
April 9, the chairmen have
scheduled a number of special
telethons, including appeals
for new gifts and a Sunday
breakfast meeting with United
Jewish Appeal National
Chairman Martin Stein.
Stein will speak at a Purim
breakfast in the LaMed Au-
ditorium of the United Hebrew
Schools in Southfield. Cam-
paign workers will review
what has been raised to date.
"The pace of the 1987 Cam-
paign is ahead of last year, in
the number of gifts as well as
dollars raised," Borman stated.
"But we have a long way to go.
Our goal is to reach everyone
in the community by April 9."
Stein has held both national
and local leadership roles in
numerous humanitarian
organizations. He served as
president of the Jewish Feder-
ation and campaign chairman
in his hometown of Milwaukee.
With the UJA, he was chair-
man of the Special Task Force
for Operation Moses, which, in
less than four months, raised
more than $60 million for the
resettlement of Ethiopian
Jews in Israel.
