the dishes he prepares.
Giobbi's recipes follow the
guidelines prescribed by Dr.
Woolf, noted cardiologist of
Beth Israel Hospital in Boston,
Mass . . . In addition to concen-
trating on low-fat and low-
cholesterol ingredients, they
have worked out a formula for
counterbalancing the effect of
high-fat foods . . . and seem-
ingly produced a highly imag-
inative array of delicious and
satisfying recipes.
In the book's 560 recipes, Dr.
Woolf provides at the bottom of
each one an invaluable break-
down of the fats and cholesterol
for those who need to keep
count . . . Back of the book is
useful information about the
nature of cholesterol and ways
of combating its buildup.
"I regard eating as one of the
great pleasures of life," writes
Dr. Woolf. "It is a pleasure I
have no intention of giving up
myself or asking others 'to. I
have tried to make this unmis-
takable clear to my patients —
both those searching for ways
to avoid heart disease and
those suffering from it — when
advising them to make certain
changes in life style, particu-
larly in eating habits. Yet I
have been met almost invari-
ably with a reflex response
which assumes that if it is a
diet we're talking about, it
cannot be enjoyable. I have
done my best to emphasize the
positive aspects: the pleasure
from feeling well and vigorous,
the satisfaction that comes
from a bit of self-denial, and
the prospects of a longer and
healthier life. I have even
passed along what I know
about foods with little and ac-
ceptable fat and have shared
some small culinary triumphs,
such as my substitute for sour
cream, an 'acceptable'
cheesecake, and a multipur-
pose dough good for pies,
strudel and cookies."
BREADS ARE THE latest
products selling big at the Des-
serts . . . by Sylvia Lee shop
opened on W. Ten Mile just
west of Telegraph . . . They are
healthy and low calorie .. .
with no sugar, no eggs and no
shortening . . . The "Six Grain
Health Bread" also contains no
salt.
Sylvia loves to invent new
recipes . . . and is continually
adding new products. Her cake
sales, however, are still domi-
nated by raspberry
cheesecake, apricot pound-
cake, chocolate pinwheel and
chocolate kirschtorte.

FEW PLACES AROUND

to get a real good old-fashioned
sundae nowadays . . . And
would you believe one of them
is a Chinese restaurant? .. .
Great Wall in the Drakeshire
Shopping Center on Grand
River near Drake, makes its
own sauces, too . . . chocolate,
butterscotch, liqueur, etc. .. .
Its peanut butter sauce is con-
sidered one of the best any-
where . . . People travel from
everywhere for the very fine
Great Wall gourmet and reg-
ular dishes.
