Rabbi and Mrs. Irwin Groner

SZ 125th Anniversary
Dinner To Honor Groners

The board of trustees of
Cong. Shaarey Zedek, under
the leadership of Cong.
President Myron L. Milgrom,
announces that the congrega-
tion's annual State of Israel
Bond Dinner will this year
pay tribute to its spiritual
leader, Rabbi Irwin Groner,
and his wife, Leypsa.
The dinner, which will also
celebrate Shaarey Zedek's
125th anniversary, is
scheduled for Nov. 5. Follow-
ing a cocktail reception and
dinner, a special multi-media
presentation will be viewed
by the guests in the main
sanctuary. It will depict past
and current aspects of the
lives of the honorees and pre-
sent the history of what is
now Michigan's largest Con-
servative congregation, said
William M. Davidson, gen-
eral dinner chairman.
Rabbi and Mrs. Groner,
who have personally partici-
pated in and supported every
Shaarey Zedek Israel Bond
event since they came to De-
troit in 1959, when he was
appointed Shaarey Zedek's
assistant rabbi, will be pre-
sented with Israel's most
prestigious award, the Peace
Medal, "in recognition of
their outstanding service to
their synagogue, the Jewish
community and the State of
Israel."
Paul Borman is associate
general chairman. Mandell
Berman, Harold Berry, Louis
Berry, Judge Avern Cohn,
Max M. Fisher and A. Alfred
Taubman are honorary
- chairmen; David B. Hermelin
and Irving Laker are dinner
co-chairmen.

cial Tenure Commission of

this capacity. The Jewish
Theological Seminary of
America has awarded him an
honorary Doctor of Divinity
degree.
