Arrives In
Israel

-,

Aviv (JTA) — Dr.
Vladimir Brodsky, a Jewish
activist unexpectedly re-
leased from a Soviet prison
after serving one year of a
three-year sentence for al-
leged "hooliganism," arrived
in Israel last Sunday with his
wife, Nina Zisserman Brod-
sky, and their baby daughter,
Rachel.
Brodsky, 42, a former
Moscow cardiologist, was
sentenced in August, 1985 to
three years at a Soviet labor
camp. He had been seeking
an exit visa for Israel, unsuc-
cessfully, since 1980.
His wife, a journalist, told
reporters in fluent Hebrew
that her husband's early
release was due to the in-
tervention of many organiza-
tions. She mentioned the U.S.
Peace Corps and West Ger-
many's opposition Green
Party, among them.
Brodsky said his family's
joy on being in Israel was
tempered by concern for
fellow Jewish activists who
remain in prison. He referred
to Yosef Begun, serving a
12-year sentence, who he said
recently lost 20 pounds and
cannot walk; and Ronald
Zelichenok, serving a three-
year sentence, who is forced
to work as usual though he
has had a cerebral hem-
orrhage.

Third World
Declaration
Blasts Israel

Harare, Zimbabwe (JTA) —
The final declaration of the
eighth summit of the non-
aligned countries which end-
ed here last week, included
repeated condemnations of
Israel policies and continued
support for the "struggle
against Zionism," the World
Jewish Congress reported.
According to the WJC
spokesman here, the Harare
declaration included a four-
part final document in which
the nonaligned expresses
itself on the Middle East in
explicit antiIsrael terms. In-
cluded in this political
declaration were the following
points:
Demand for "the total and
unconditional withdrawal of
Israel from all Palestinian
and other Arab territories it
has occupied since 1967, in-
cluding Jerusalem."
Support for the PLO as the
"sole legitimate represen-
tative of the Palestinian peo-
ple" and their right to es-
tablish a sovereign indepen-
dent state in Palestine?'
Condemnation of "Israeli
aggression against Lebanon
and the continued Israeli
occupation of parts of the
country" as well as sharp con-
demnation of "the inhuman
practices of the occupation
forces in Lebanon."
