Daniel Ebenstein, a senior
at Akiva Hebrew Day School,
is one of 15,000 high school
students from across the
country who has been named
a semi-finalist in the 1987
National Merit Scholarship
competition.
To be considered for Merit
Scholarships, semifinalists
must advance to finalist
.standing by documenting
high academic performance,
being endorsed and recom-
mended by their high schools,
taking the Scholastic Apti-
tude Test and confirming
their qualifying performance,
and submitting information
about their school and com-
munity activities, personal
interests and goals.
The son of Dr. Noemi and
Dr. Samuel Ebenstein of
Southfield, Daniel is cur-
rently studying in Jerusalem
as part of the Akiva senior-

Enrichment Focus
Of Bais Chabad

Bais Chabad of Farmington
Hills and of West Bloomfield
announce the establishment
(if an enrichment program for
day school students. The pro-
gram takes place at the
Lubavitch Education Center,
28555 Middlebelt, Far-
mington Hills, on Sundays at
10:30 a.m. for children of all
day schools between the ages
of 9 and 12.
The goals of the program
are to enhance the Chumash,
Rashi and Talmud skills of
day school students.

Study Group
Aimed At Teens

Bais Chabad Torah Center
invites all interested teena-
gers to a Tephilin, breakfast
and study group on Sundays
at 9:15 a.m. at the center,

5595 W. Maple, West Bloom-
field.
The sessions, led by Rabbi
Elimelech Silberberg, focus
on the 613 commandments
and the philosophical and
technical aspects of prayer
and synagogue skills. There
is no charge. For information,

BBYO

The annual B'nai B'rith
Youth Organization kickoff
dance will be held Saturday
at West Bloomfield High
School, 4925 Orchard Lake
Road, at 8:30 p.m. The theme
of the dance is "Feel the Flow
of BBYO." All Jewish youth
in grades nine through 12 are
invited.
Admission is free to all
nationally-registered mem-
bers of AZA and BBG. There
is a nominal charge for
non-members and for pro-
spective members. Music will
be provided by Dance Sounds
Unlimited. Coordinators are
Paul Niser of Rose AZA and
Ellyn Craine of Machar BBG.
Staff coordinator is Arnold J.
Weiner.
The BBYO Fall Conclave
will be held Oct. 31-Nov. 2 at
Camp Maas. The slogan for
the conclave is "Seriously —
It's Your Choice." Applica-
tions are available from AZA
and BBG chapter presidents
as well as from the BBYO
office. Deadline for applica-
tion is Oct. 17. Each chapter
will have five guaranteed
participants, but as many as
are interested may apply.
Scholarships and loans are
available for the conclave by
calling the BBYO office,
350-2760. Overall coor-
dinators are Eric Slutzky of
Samson AZA and Daniella
HarPaz of Masada BBG. Staff
coordinator is Joel Colman.
All AZA and BBG chapters
are seeking members. All in-
terested Jewish teens in
ninth through 12th grades
may be referred to chapters
in their area by contacting
Lani Shelef, BBYO secretary,
350-2760.
Michigan Region BBYO re-
ceived 17 group and indi-
vidual awards at the recent
BBYO international conven-
tion at the B'nai B'rith
Perlman Camp in Starlight,
Pa. Eight AZA and BBG
chapters received recognition
as "best all-around chapters."
Recipients of the Henry
Monsky Award were Theodor.
Herzl AZA, Windsor; Koshon
AZA, Ronald L. Posen AZA,
and Gen. Maurice Rose AZA.
Recipients of the Miriam Al-
bert Award were Benjamin
Disraeli BBG, Shalom Aviv
BBG, Shira BBG,
and
Shoshanna BBG.
First place was won by
Steve Jasgur of Goode AZA
in AZA Oratory and second
