The program of the 53rd
annual Balfour Celebration
and Concert has been an-
nounced by Irving Laker,
chairman of the celebration
\ committee.
Scheduled for Nov. 2 at
Ford Auditorium, the all-
musical program will star
"Israel's First Lady of Song"
Ofra Haza, and will feature
the Israeli actor, singer and
raconteur, Gadi Elon, and the
• young piano virtuoso, Jeffrey
Biegel.
The concert will mark the
69th anniversary of the Bal-
four Declaration issued by
Lord Balfour on behalf of the
British government on Nov.
2, 1917.
Mack Pitt and his Or-
chestra will offer the musical
accompaniment.

The Jewish Community
Center of Metropolitan De-
troit announces the folk duo,
\ Gemini, will appear in con-

cert at an open house on
Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Cen-
ter. There is a nominal ad-
• mission charge.
Gemini consists of twins
Sandor and Laslo Slomovitz.
Using a variety of instru-
ments and their matched
voices, the brothers perform
songs of modern-day Israel.
They
also draw on their

• European upbringing, singing
Old World songs in Hebrew
) and Yiddish.
In addition to the folk con-
cert, the Center open house
will feature mini-classes and
displays of all facets of JCC
activities. Visitors of all ages
are invited to participate in a
variety of activities, includ-
ing folk dancing, classes,
book reviews, games, races,
hay rides, boating and hik-
ing. Tours of the building at
6600 W. Maple will be of-
fered.
The open house is a part of
the Jewish Community Cen-
ter's 60-year celebration. For
