on-site therapy services in-
cluding occupational, speech,
recreation, psychiatric and
physical therapy.
"We are very pleased with
the expansion because we
will be able to use the new
unit to identify and group
patient problems so we can
treat them in a more efficient
manner," said Dr. Joseph
Honet, chairman of Sinai
Hospital's department of re-
habilitation medicine. "The
additional beds will signific-
antly reduce the waiting list,
and provide admission to the
rehabilitation unit in a more
timely fashion."

Jeweler Howard Tapper
will receive the City of Hope
"Spirit of Life" Award at a
dinner in his honor on Sept.
20 at the Hyatt Regency
Hotel.
Tapper attended Wayne
State University and was
graduated in June 1972 with
a Bachelor of Science degree
in marketing. His first affili-
ation with the jewelry busi-
ness was in 1963 when he
worked for the E.L. Rice Co.
He then went on to become a
buyer for the Meyer Jewelry
Co. and in 1977 founded Tap-
per's Jeweliy, of which he is
president.
Tapper's community and
philanthropic endeavors in-
clude, member of the Na-
tional Young Leadership
Cabinet of the United Jewish
Appeal, Fresh Air Society,
Hillel Day School, Variety
Club, Bar-Ilan University,
Cong. Beth Shalom, co-
chairman of the Mercantile
Division of the Jewish Wel-
fare Federation and Big
Brothers. He is currently
serving as vice president of
the Jewish Community Cen-
ter.
Proceeds from the dinner
will be earmarked for a med-
ical research fellowship at
the City of Hope National
Medical Center and Beckman
Research Institute in Duarte,
Calif.

Sinai Renovates
Rehab Center

Sinai Hospital has received
a certificate of need to ex-
pand and renovate its re-
habilitation medicine center.
The unit currently has 30
beds. When construction be-
gins, nine more beds will be
added, and all of the rooms
will be renovated to include
bathroom facilities that are
accessible by wheelchair.
The new unit will also
have a larger area for dining
and socializing, an important
function for the psycho-social
rehabilitation of handicapped

Detroit Zoo Trip
Planned For Seniors

The senior adults who meet
at the Jimmy Prentis Morris
Branch of th Jewish Commu-
nity Center will be treated to
a day at the zoo today by the
Area Agency on Aging.
At 12:45 p.m. today, Albin
Eisler will show slides of his
world travels in Jaffe Hall of
the JPM. Sam Barnett, as-
sisted by children, will pre-
sent the Erev Shabbos pro-
gram at 1:30 p.m. today in
Jaffe Hall.
On Tuesday, Rabbi Dannel
Schwartz of Temple Beth El
will address the seniors at 1
p.m. in the assembly hall.
Following the lecture at 2
p.m., the film, Where the Boys
Are, will be shown by Archie
Leslie.
Hearing loss will be the
topic of a program for seniors
and those involved with
seniors at 12:45 p.m. Sept. 5
in Jaffe Hall of the JPM.
Alissa Pianin of Sinai Hospi-
tal's rehabilitation depart-
ment, will be the speaker. At
2 p.m. there will be a work-
shop for professionals and
other interested individuals
in Room 15. Admission is
free.
Marvin Turk will appear at
the Erev Shabbos program at
1:30 p.m. Sept. 5 in Jaffe
Hall.

Jazz And Comedy
At Plaza Fest

The final concert of South-
field's Plaza Fest series will
take place 5 p.m. today at the
Civic Center Plaza, 26000
Evergreen.
Latin jazz artist Franciso
Mora and comedian Ron
Coden will perform. There is
no charge.

Rescheduled

The Focus on Living meet-
ing for cancer patients and
their families which was
scheduled for Monday has
been rescheduled for Sept. 8
at 7:30 p.m. in the Southfield
Civic Center.
