Cantor Stuart Friedman
Cantor Stuart D. Friedman of
Cleveland Heights, Ohio, has
been appointed cantor of Cong.
B'nai David, according to Fred
Ferber, congregational president.
Cantor Friedman is a native of
Baltimore, Md., where he re-
ceived his early, religious, secu-
lar, and musical education. As a
high school student he attended
the Peabody Conservatory of
Music; he continued his studies at
Towson State University, earning
a B.A. degree in music and vocal
performance. Cantor Friedman
has furthered his vocal studies at
Towson State University and the
Cleveland Institute of Music.
He is a graduate of the high
school division of the Baltimore
Hebrew College and also attended
its undergraduate division. He
furthered his Judaic studies at
Yeshiva University and has con-
tinued these studies privately.
Cantor Friedman studied the
art of chazzanut privately with
several prominent cantors in the
Baltimore area, including Cantor
Abraham J. Denburg. For several
years, he was a tenor soloist in
Cantor Denburg's choir. He is a
graduate of the Cantorial Train-
ing Institute of Yeshiva Univer-
sity, where he studied with Can-
tors Macy Nulman, Noah Schall
and Bernard Beer.
Cantor Friedman has appeared
in concerts in Baltimore, Cleve-
land and Canada. He has also of-
ficiated in synagogues through-
out the Baltimore metropolitan
area, as well as in Chicago, Con-
necticut, New Jersey, New York,
Philadelphia and Canada. For the
past 4 1/2 years, he has served as
the cantor of the Oheb Zedek -
Taylor Road Synagogue in Cleve-
land Heights.
Cantor Friedman is an active
member of the Cantors Council of
America, the Jewish Ministers'
Cantors' Association and the
American Society for Jewish
Music.
