Max Fisher, second from right, is greeted at the reception by, from
left: Gen. Yehudah Halevy, Paul Borman, David Hermelin and
Douglas Schubot.

A reception honoring Max M.
Fisher, held last week in the
Birmingham home of Paul and
Marlene Borman, generated
more than $13.1 million in Is-
rael Bonds and other Israel
securities purchased in tribute
to Fisher and in support of Is-
rael's economic development.
The reception's Israel Bond
results was a record-breaker,
surpassing by several million
any Bond function ever held in
Metro Detroit, according to
Douglas Schubot, Metro Detroit
general chairman.
The reception was held in ad-
vance of Sunday's State of Israel
Bond international dinner in
New York. The dinner will
launch a year-long celebration
of the centennial of David
Ben-Gurion and will honor
Fisher and 16 other world
Jewish leaders. Israel Prime
Minister Shimon Peres will pre-
sent the honorees with the
Ben-Gurion Centennial Medal,
"in recognition of their
exemplary service to Israel, the
Jewish people and the commu-
nity at large."
Other honorees are Ambas-
sador Walter H. Annenberg of
Philadelphia, Arthur Belfer of
New York, William Belzberg of
Los Angeles, Lester Crown of
Chicago, Morton L. Mandel of
Cleveland, Harvey M. Meyerhoff
of Baltimore, Donald M. Robin-
son of Pittsburgh, Sam
Rothberg, international chair-
man of Israel Bonds; Robert H.
Smith of Washington, D.C.,
Henry Taub of New Jersey and
Jack D. Weiler of New York.
