Your May 9 article on "Saving
the Neighborhood" and the May
16 letter from the anonymous
writer prompted us to write.
On several counts, the
anonymous writer is correct.
Many in our community panic
and move when the first blacks
move nearby. As a result,. few
neighborhoods stay Jewish for
more than 20 to 30 years. Many
nice Jewish neighborhoods
(along with synagogues and
other Jewish institutions) have
been, abandoned as we keep
moving, and it is possible that
someday Jews will no longer
find Farmington Hills and West
Bloomfield desirable. This is a
ridiculous situation, and per-
haps the Federation should
study ways to stabilize Jewish
areas.
But the anonymous writer is
wrong when he or she states
that "other than the few Or-
thodox who remain, there are
almost no young Jewish families
left in Oak Park." We are a
young family, and we bought a
home in the north part of Oak
Park 2 1/2 years ago. There are
many other young Jewish
families around us, and not all
are Orthodox. Ours is a friendly
area with many nice, affordable
homes. We are happy here, and
hope to stay as long as possible.
Two adjoining areas, Hun-
tington Woods and Southfield,
may have a future too. Hun-
tington Woods is a pleasant
community and we know several
young couples who have re-
cently purchased homes there.
Some nice sections of Southfield
are changing fast, but there are
still certain areas that are
somewhat stable.
The Federation's efforts to
"save the neighborhoods" are a
bit tardy, but they are com-
mendable. Better late than
never. After all, not everyone
can afford a $125,000 home.

Shame Of The
Mormon Center
Today, on the land that God
himself reserved for Jews,'
armed Israeli soldiers are guard-
ing Mormon interests against
Jewish interests and against the
proper indignation of the pious
people of Israel.
Tomorrow, the mayor of
Jerusalem will proclaim the
Mormon evangelical Center as
probably the paramount attrac-
tion of his city and as the most
lasting example of his own spirit
of ecuminism.
All this in the place Jews con-
sider the most holy.
Thus, the politicians of Israel
(may their memory be forever
erased) do the Christian mis-
sionary work just as the Polish
did the Germans' work at the
concentration camps.
