RUTH & FRANK THEYLEG
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

vention that they were not at all
happy with the AIPAC deci-
sion," Goodman said.
Alleck Resnick, national
president of the Zionist Organ-
ization of America, said that
neither he nor the executive di-
rector of ZOA was contaced be-
fore the AIPAC decision was
reached. "We remain opposed to
the sale and we Will do all that
we can to mobilize our member-
ship, and beyond, in an effort to
defeat the proposal," said Re-
snick.
Other leaders, who preferred
not to be quoted directly, voiced
displeasure, saying that not only
were they not consulted but key
Senators and Representatives
opposed to the sale were not in-
formed of AIPAC's decision be-
fore or after it was made. "I'm
worried about the next time
AIPAC urges a leading Senator
or Congressman to fight an
Arab arms sale," noted one
Jewish leader, "and he turns
around and asks what assurance
he can have that they're not
going to pull the rug out from
under him again."
– Gary Rosenblatt

New York — A group pf black
South Africans are being
trained in a program in Israel in
social organizing and economic
leadership skills as preparation
for a possible transition of power
in the event that apartheid is
abolished.
The program is sponsored by
Histadrut, Israel's national
labor federation. The emphasis
in the program is on organizing
trade unions for the nation's 12
million black workers, develop-
ing social programs, forming
civic groups, and organizing
black women as activists.
Legau Mathabgthe, co-founder
of the Soweto Committee of Ten
and a participant in the work-
shop, said the group's intention
was to learn the skills offered by
their Israeli hosts necessary to
rid South Africa of apartheid.
"We are telling the (South Afri-
can) government 'This is our
land. We want to run it. If you
wish to join us in running it,
please do it on our terms," he
said.
