Identification
Having just seen Shoah, I feel
that there is something that led
to the terrible Holocaust results
— the separation of Jews from
other Polish or German peoples.
Yet I find that you are also
contributing to the same prob-
lem. You have a nice article on
cooperation, entitled "Carrying
the Torch" (March 14)
Unfortunately, in very large let-
ters underneath that headline,
are the words: "Two long-time
friends, an Italian and a Jew
." Reading the article, I find
that the "Italian" . was an
American of Italian ancestry,
while the "Jew" had no ancestry
noted. If one uses a religious de-
scription of one person, then one
should also use a religious de-
scription of the other.
On the other hand, if one uses
an ancestor-related description
of one, then the same must be
used on the other.
I find your headline very of-
fensive. Please consider this let-
ter as coming from an Ameri-
can, Jewish by birth and follow-
ing. I have American friends
who are Catholic as well as Pro-
testant.
I hope that you will not make
the same error again.
Albert Rosenthal
Editor's note: The article states
on Page 36: "Glassman's parents
arrived in the late 1800s - his
father, Philip Sklarovich, from
Poland; and his mother, Tillie
Sigman, from Russia."
Eastern
Pulls Magazine
A letter published in The
Jewish News Feb. 7, which was
also sent to Frank Borman,
president of Eastern Airlines,
has resulted in the withdrawal
of a pro-Arab publication from
Eastern flights.
'Abraham Minowitz wrote that
a copy of South - The Third
World Magazine, which he saw
on an Eastern flight in January,
had a cover story on Yasser
Arafat. It treated the PLO ter-
rorist leader as a great
humanitarian.
Minowitz received a response
this month from Donald F. Lohr
of Eastern's in-flight entertain-
ment department. Lohr wrote: "I
was. very concerned to learn of
your dissatisfaction with the
publication South magazine.
"We work very hard to pro-
vide the best in-flight library in
the industry and we regret that
we let you down. Your letter
and several others have con-
vinced us to discontinue board-
ing this publication ..."
