Prof. Murray Roston
Prof. Murray Roston, of Bar-
Ilan University's department of
English, will deliver a public lec-
ture at Adat Shalom Synagogue
on April 2, 8 p.m. This lecture will
be a continuation of the joint cul-
tural program sponsored by the
synagogue and by Bar-Earl's De-
troit Friends.
Prof. Roston's topic will be "A
Challenge to Faith: the Image of
Man in Modern Literature and
Art."
Born in London, Roston earned
his bachelor's degree at Cam-
bridge and his master's and docto-
rate degrees in English literature
at the University of London. He
and his family made aliyah in
1956, when he immediately joined
the Bar-Ilan faculty.
Becoming a full professor in
1969 he has served as the English
department's chairman during
1967-1972 and 1976-1977. Prof.
Roston was a visiting professor of
English at Stanford University in
1966, 1972 and 1983, was a visit-
ing professor of English at the
University of Virginia in 1981,
and is currently a fellow at the
National Humanity Center in
North Carolina.
He is the author of seven books
and numerous articles including
Prophet and Poet: the Bible and
and
the Growth of Romanticism
Renaissance Perspectives: in Lit-
erature and the Visual Arts.
The public is invited at no
charge, and there will be no solici-
tation of funds. Refreshments will
follow Prof. Roston's remarks.

co-chairmen of Adat Shalom
Synagogue's adult study commis-
sion, and Howard Tapper serves
as Bar-Ilan's Detroit education
