Matthew Hyman and Jeremy
Liss will twin the observance of
their b'nai mitzvah celebrations
with Alexei Abramovich, the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander
Abramovich of Bendery, Molda:
yin, Russia, at 9 a.m. Saturday
at Adat Shalom Synagogue.
Abramovich is an electronics
engineer and his wife, Galina, is
a physician. Since they first
applied for visas five years ago,
Abramovich lost his engineering
position and is now a
shoemaker.
Mrs. Abramovich's parents
emigrated to Israel in May 1980
and have made many appeals to
authorities for reunion with
their children but have been re-
fused for "regime considera-
tions."
The Abramovich family wants
letters and visitors from the
West. Their financial situation
is quite poor.
Matthew and Jeremy have
written several times to Alexei
but have received no replies.
They will attempt to contact the
family by telephone and will
send congratulatory wishes to
their relatives in Israel.
Jeffrey Franklin
is Bar Mitzvah
Jeffrey Neil Franklin became
bar mitzvah at Shabbat services
Jan. 11 at Temple Israel.
He twinned his bar mitzvah
with Pavel Yusim, son of
Mikhail and Stalina Yusim of
Leningrad. The Yusims have
been denied exit visas.
The bar mitzvah also was the
occasion to remember the
Abram Kagans of Leningrad
and cousins Leonid Volvovsky,
wife, Mila and daughter, Kira,
who have been exiled to Gorky.
Volvovsky was recently sen-
tenced to three years in prison
for spreading anti-Soviet prop-
aganda.
Jeffrey is the son of Cynthia
and Murray Franklin. His sis-
ters are Roberta and Elizabeth.
His grandparents are Mr. and
Mrs. Martin Weston and Abe
Franklin.
Dan Cherrin
Is Bar Mitzvah
Dan Cherrin will be called to
the Torah on the occasion of his
bar mitzvah at 8:45 a.m. Satur-
day at Cong. Shaarey Zedek.
Dan will twin his bar mitzvah
with Boleslav Vainman of Rus-
sia. Boleslav's father, Lev, has
been refused permission to emi-
grate since 1979 and has not
been allowed to work since
applying to leave Minsk for Is-
rael.
The younger Vainman has
never seen his grandfather or
uncle who live in Natanya, Is-
rael.
Dan is the son of Michael
Cherrin and Sandra Cherrin.
