traditionally sung during the
festival of Chanukah at the
Laker Chanukah concert on
Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Cong.
Shaarey Zedek.
The works are Hanerot Halalu
(We Light These Candles) by
Dr. Morton Gold of West Bloom-
field, and Al Hanissim (For
These Miracles) by Dr. Sholom
Kalib of Farmington Hills. They
will be performed by an au-
gmented synagogue choir, di-
rected by . Eugene Zweig, with
Cantor Chaim Najman as sol-
oist, Rabbi Irwin Groner as nar-
rator, and accompanied by
Carole Lasser, pianist, and an
instrumental ensemble. In addi-
tion, the synagogue youth choir,
directed by Robin Beth Schakne,
will perform selections.
Dr. Kalib is a professor of
music at Eastern Michigan Uni-
versity of Ypsilanti and also
serves as cantor of Cong. Beth
Israel in Flint. He is nationally
known as a composer of liturgi-
cal music, having written many
services and individual composi-
tions for cantor and choir.
Dr. Gold has composed many
works for chorus and orchestra,
has served as professor of music
in Nasson College and most re-
cently as music director of Tem-
ple Israel.
Admission to the concert is
free, and refreshments will be
served following the concert.

7 and 21 at Cong. B'nai Israel of
West Bloomfield.
The boys are members of a
class of Ba-Alei Tefiila (junior
chazanim), consisting of pre-
bar&bat mitzvah students.
Rabbi Sherman P. Kirshner,
spiritual leader of the congrega-
tion, organized the class and
trains and prepares the junior
cantors.

At B'nai David
The B'nai David Sisterhood
and Men's Club will hold their
Chanukah latke party and mus-
ical show on Monday at 6:30
p.m. at the synagogue.
