New York (JTA) — The fam-
ily of the late Leon Klinghoffer,
the elderly American Jew killed
by Palestinian hijackers of the
Italian cruise ship Achille Lauro
Oct. 1, has filed a $1.5 billion
suit agaist the Palestine Libera-
tion Organization in New York
State Supreme Court.
The suite accuses the PLO of
"wanton and cold-blooded mur-
der" and asks for $100 million
on each of 15 separate counts.
The family is also suing the
owners of the ship and the
travel agency which sponsored
the tour.
Meanwhile, the president of a
New York-based Jewish frater-
nal organization has called on
Mayor Ed Koch and the New
York City Council to rename a
Manhattan street where the
PLO has offices to "Leon Klin-
ghoffer Square."
"Diplomatic reality makes it
impossible for the PLO to be
forced out of New York," accord-
ing to B'nai Zion President Er-
nest Zelig. "But we can at least
send a message to this obscene
gang that Leon Klinghoffer and
all other victims of the PLO will
never be forgotten."

New York (JTA) — Art ob-
jects which were confiscated by
the Nazis and are now in the
custody of the Austrian govern-
ment can be claimed by surviv-
ing owners or their heirs under
an agreement the Committee for
Jewish Claims on Austria
reached with Austrian Chancel-
lor Fred Sinowatz last January,
it was announced Monday by
Dr. Israel Miller, president of
the Committee.
Committee officials and repre-
sentatives of the World Jewish
Congress met this week with
Austrian Finance Minister Dr.
Franz Vranitzky to discuss the
implementation of the agree-
ment.
Miller said that claims may
be filed until Sept. 30, 1986
with the Austrian Ministry of
Finance, Postfach 2000 (Mauer-
bach), A1015 Vienna, Austria.
Named To Post
Jerusalem (JTA) — The
Cabinet has approved the ap-
pointment of Likud MK Michael
Dekel as Deputy Minister of De-
fense with duties related to
Jewish settlements in the ad-
ministered territories.
His confirmation had been de-
layed because Deputy Premier
David Levy, also of Likud,
wanted the post to go to Eliahu
Ben-Elissar, chairman of the
Knesset's Foreign Affairs and
Security Committee.
Another appointment ap-
proved Sunday was MK Rafael
Pinhassi of the religious party,
Shas, to be Deputy Minister of
Social Affairs.
