Israeli Minister
Pushes Tourism

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Tourism
Minister Avraham Sharir's re-
turn home from a month abroad
was greeted with angry criti-
cism by fellow Cabinet ministers
and the public that he stayed
away too long.
He was away from Israel for
the international conference of
the Skal tourism organization in
Jerusalem. Sharir told reporters
that he overstayed the leave
granted him by the Cabinet by
only a few days and that was
necessary because he was fully
occupied trying to promote
tourism — especially American
— to Israel. While he was in
New York, Sharir told the
Jewish Telegraphic Agency he
was concerned about the drop in
American tourism to Israel since
the Achille Lauro hijack last
month.

Canadian Jew
Heads Party

Toronto (JTA) — Larry
Grossman, a 43-year-old lawyer,
member of the Ontario provin-
cial legislature and a former
Cabinet Minister, was elected
leader of the Ontario Progress-
ive Conservative party at the
organization's recent convention.
Grossman, who will lead the
opposition in the Ontario legis-
lature, is the son of Allan
Grossman who held several
Cabinet posts in earlier Conser-
vative Administrations until his
retirement several years ago.
Both father and son are actively
involved in Jewish community
life.
Larry Grossman's election is
especially significant because
the party has always been iden-
tified in the past with white
Anglo-Saxon Protestants in
Canada.

Group Wants
PNC Seat

Jerusalem (JTA) — The
Neturei Karta, the anti-Zionist
ultra-Orthodox sect, has applied
for representation in the central
committee of the Palestine Na-
tional Council (PNC), the so-
called Palestinian parliament-
in-exile which Israelis regard as
part of the PLO.
Rabbi Moshe Hirsch, who
calls himself the sect's "foreign
minister," said the idea was for
Palestinian Jews to be repre-
sented in the Palestinian
government-in-exile. He said he
hoped the PLO would be "more
than eater" to include Palesti-
nian Jews in their government,
the establishment of which "will
pave the way for the ultimate
divine redemption by the Mes-
siah, whom the Zionists prevent
from coming by continuing the
existence of their heretical state,
Israel."
