WHAT BETTER WAY to
dine at a family restaurant ...
than to have a family run it ...
and wait on you? ... This is the
new CJ's Be My Guest on Nine
Mile Rd. just west of Middlebelt.
It was formerly owned by
Mike Watzman ... taken over
July 16 ... closed and re-opened
Aug. 6 ... by Charles and son
John Willson.
Charles' wife and John's
mother, Lorraine Willson, is
manager and hostess ... Their
four daughters and John's sis-
ters are among the cordial and
pleasant people who keep the
family image alive ... Ann is
head waitress and barmaid ...
Lynn, waitress ... Lisa, wait-
ress ... and Charleen, hostess
and waitress.
John cooks also ... is in the
kitchen at lunchtime helping
out ... he has a bachelor's de-
gree in food service from Mercy
College ... plus eight years as
cook and in management with
Marriott Hotels ... and a year
with W.R. Grace's JoJo's in both
Southfield and Fraser.
There are no more video
games at CJ's Be My Guest ...
No more juke box ... no more
hard-rock music ... Playing
rhythms for listening and danc-
ing Fridays and Saturdays
through Nov. 30 is trio "Night-
shift", formerly Detroit Sound
Company ... Then in comes
former Davison Freeway, now
known as Chateau Trio, with
music of '50s, '60s, '70s and '80s.
Was a complete family deci-
sion to buy the restaurant from
Mike ... with conclusion ar-
rived at a get together meeting
... of Charles, Charlene and
their five children.
Heavy emphasis is on good
food at very reasonable prices
. . . with ample portions . . . and
smiling, efficient service ...
Family concept demands these
qualities ... and CJ's Be My
Guest is doing its darndest to
bring this about.
No more concentrating on
pizza and bar-b-q ribs alone ...
The all new menu now has
three soups, six salads, 14
sandwiches, deep-dish pizza,
four omelettes, a different house
specialty made daily, quiche, a
light menu segment with tuna,
turkey, fish or chicken, 10
entrees plus nine fishes, chil-
dren menu, 18 varied side or-
ders, eight beverages and a
separate dessert menu.
The quiet-looking atmosphere
at CJ's Be My Guest is condu-
cive also to family dining ...
with its green hues, browns,
wood railings around dance
floor, dining area completely
separated from the cocktail
lounge by a full wall, brown
leather booths, red leather pad-
ded chairs, curtains between
booths, etc ... There's even an
open hearth broiler now for
cooking steaks.
At dinnertime, there are cloth
napkins ... and CJ's has a pol-
icy that seems to have gone the
wayside in too many places ...
First thing waitresses bring is
glass of water ... Whether
people drink it or not, we never
did think much of the idea that

-

water isn't brought unless you
ask for it.
CJ's Be My Guest seats 157
... and is open seven days a
week ... Monday through
Thursday, 11 a.m. to 12 mid ...
Friday til 2 a.m. ... Saturday, 3
p.m. to 2 a.m. ... and Sunday
for breakfast and full menu
selection, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
John is day host ... and dad
Chuck evening host ... This is
no family-style restaurant .. .
it's the real thing ... true fam-
ily ... owned and operated
throughout.
MACHUS CORP. has taken
over Bloomies, Orchard Lake
Rd., south of Maple ... No
agreement reached as yet, but
Machus has a four-month man-
agement contract with option to
purchase the place ... Negotia-
tions are already under way to
have the liquor license trans-
ferred ... Possibility looms that
it may eventually be called
Machus' Bloomies ... unless
name is completely changed.
Except for former manager
John Mechlenborg, same staff as
before remains at Bloomies
with a few changes.
ROMAN TERRACE, Or-
chard Lake Rd. and 12 Mile ...
and Glenn Gruskin ... had a
recent cooperative together ...
Wrong phone number appeared
in Roman' Terrace Jewish News
ad ... and Glenn politely told
the many reservations callers
correct number.
FOLKS WHO LIKE to sing
"barbershop style" and its tradi-
tional four-part harmony can
join the local Detroit Chapter
No. 1 of Society For The
Preservation and Encourage-
ment of Barbershop Singing in
America . by calling Bob
Moreillon, 259-2511 ... It's the
oldest chapter east of the Mis-
sissippi.
MAIL DEPT. "We would like
to apologize to the members of
the Jewish community who were
offended by our busboy's Hitler
costume at Peabody's restau-
rant. He was a 16-year-old por-
traying an historical figure,
competing for a Halloween
prize, not a 21-year-old who had
any malicious intent.
"The Peabody family has
served the gentile and Jewish
communities alike for 30 years
as a grocery store and 10 years
as a restaurant. Both our par-
ents, Jim and Wilma Peabody,
served in the U.S. armed forces
on the European front during
World Wat II during Hitler's re-
ign.
"We meant no offense to our
Jewish clientele or our personal
family friends. We hope our
apology will be accepted."
Susan Peabody Wortman
Barbara Peabody Beattie
IT'S OFFICIAL ... with
grand opening this Tuesday ...

(former Vineyards), Franklin
and Northwestern ... Dinner

in December.
