CHOP
HOUSE
3020 Grand River
home with 101 fever ... so wife
Betty, a former nurse, made him
stay home ... She is among the
top committeewomen around
(last count was over 30) and did
her very gracious solo as one of
hostesses at The Last Rose Of
Summer" (one of its songs) prior
to opening night of Martha by
Michigan Opera Theatre.
Betty is always so wonderful
and personable ... She and Bob
are a great couple ... "We don't
want his germs around here"
said the swell lady in blue be-
aded dress with butterfly shape
in back and front.
Sheila Sloan in a flaming red
dress told she looked like Car-
men ... Dr. Charles Kessler
owning half-dozen cigarette
lighters ... Wife Jo says friend
gave up smoking and put all his
lighters in a bag ... Charles
took some beauties ... Diane
Hofsess, Yours Truly of Detroit
News, so cute ... Lois Werth-
eimer Lipnik, wife of Dr. Morry
Lipnik, reminiscing back almost
45 years ago when she helped
found Social, Inc. at Jewish
Community Center, Woodward
and Holbrook ... Lois would
like to start a reunion of all who
organized and attended Social,
Inc. functions.
Shelly Cooper and Peter
Cooper saying that her brother,
Coleman Friedman, in Windsor,
is doing fine ... Cast has been
taken off right foot and he'll try
driving and breaking with his
left foot ... They attended
dinner but didn't stay for open-
ing because Morry likes to be at
the opera the last night because
it is on a Saturday.
We lucked out again with
swell table ... Joe and Charlie
Kessler, Marsha and Eric Wit-
shire, Lillie and Norman Tabor
and David DiChiera.
After dinner was very un-
usual as everyone followed rose
petals through closed corridor of
New Center One bldg. into
Fisher Theater ... The wonder-
ful presentation of Martha was
appreciated by a huge opening
night attendance who enjoyed
Frederick von Flotow's light and
lively romantic comedy per-
formed in English ... with its
great songs, "Last Rose of
Summer" and "Martha."
The 15th anniversary series is
a huge success ... Martha ends
tomorrow night ... Leonard
Bernstein's West Side Story,
Nov. 15 thru Dec. 8, is selling
fast ... and Turandot is March
5, 7, 8 at Masonic Temple.
With MOT at the Fisher The-
ater, it brought back many
memories for us ... The theater
so wonderfully beautiful ... and
downstairs where once perched
parrots adorned the lavish
lounge ... the magnificent
edifice with gleaming tile and
marble that we never thought
would ever be duplicated.
LIMITED SPACE OF only
150 ... that's it ... for "L'Af-
faire de la Femme" luncheon to
benefit March of Dimes, Nov.
