Flavio Varni

Music Study Club of Met-
ropolitan Detroit will meet
Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. at the
Birmingham Temple.
Flavio Varani, concert pianist
and artist-in-residence since
1972 at Oakland University, will
be the featured artist.
Varani studied at the Juilliard
School, and later received
Bachelor and Master of Music
degrees from the Manhattan
School of Music. He received the
Harold Bauer Award from the
school.
Varani has made frequent ap-
pearances at the Lincoln Center
and at Carnegie Hall; with the
Detroit Symphony Orchestra:
and has performed in Venezuela
and with major European or-
chestras. Locally, he has been a
regular artist at the Newport
Music Festival, and with many
orchestras in Southeastern
Michigan. He returned to
Meadow Brook Music Festival to
perform the world premier of
Hollingsworth's Concerto for
Piano and Orchestra, with the
DSO. The work was 'commis-
sioned by the festival and was
conducted by Neville Marriner.
In May 1982, Varani received
the Michigan Foundation for the
Arts Award.

inal fee.
