Discrimination In Israel?

A few decades ago, Jews and
blacks were legally excluded
from living in large sections of
America by restrictive cove-
nants incorporated in land prop-
erty deeds — restrictions that
helped to create ghettos in
America.
Hard as it is to believe, what
is now illegal in America, the
government of Israel proclaims
a policy of housing discrimina-
tion against Jews! The Jewish
News (Sept. 13) reports that
Premier Minister Shimon Peres
and Defense Minister Yitzhak
Rabin are restricting Jews from
settling in Judea and Samaria,
especially in Hebron where an
Israeli soldier was recently fat-
ally stabbed. Rabin stated he
opposed Jews being allowed to
live in any cities predominantly
Arab, not only in Judea and
Samaria, but also in Arab vil-
lages within Israel's pre-1967
lines. It should be noted there
are no restrictions where Arabs
can live in Israel. After all, that
would be racist!
Hebron, one of the four holy
cities of the Jewish people, was
the capital -of Judah in the days
of King David. Our people have
lived continuously in Hebron
from Biblical times to 1929
when the survivors of an Arab
massacre were driven out. But
even after that 1929 massacre,
Jews continued to make pil-
grimages to the Cave of Mach-
pela where the patriarch Ab-
raham is buried as is his son
Isaac and grandson Israel and
their respective wives. Only
from 1948-1967 when the King-
dom of Jordan seized and occu-
pied Judea and Samaria were
Jews forbidden to live or visit
Hebron ...
•But now we have a Jewish
state, and most strangely, not
only does the government of
that Jewish state officially sanc-
tion housing discrimination
against their fellow Jews, but
some of those officials even
suggest the Jewish victims of
Arab terrorism are themselves
to blame. The Minister of Police,
Chaim Bar-Lev, declared after
Arab terrorists massacred six
yeshiva students in Hebron,
that if the Jews had not been in
Hebron, they would not have
been murdered.
Over the last 20 years, 702 Is-
raelis have been murdered and
3,733 injured by action of ter-
rorists. (This does not include
Israelis who died in the war in
Lebanon.) About 35 percent of
the acts of terror were commit-
ted in Jerusalem. After
Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and
Natanya had the next highest
number. Does Minister of Police
Bar-ley suggest, like Hebron, if ,
,Jews had not lived in .
Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and
Natranya they would not have
been murdered? Or does Peres
and Rabin think Jews should
stop settling in those cities be-
cause, like Hebron, Jews have
been murdered there?
No, of course not! You don't

surrender to terrorists. You
fight back and stop violence.
You don't get peace by groveling
and appeasement and weakness,
only through strength. That also
means just as Jews have the
right to live anywhere in
America, so certainly should the
Jewish people have no less
rights to live anywhere in their
Land of Israel.

Jewish Spokesman
And Extremism

Whenever
our
Jewish
"spokesmen" react publicly or in
the media to anti-Semitic ex-
tremism and demagogy they
generally cite Rabbi Meir
Kahane as- its Jewish counter-
part.
Why is this concession neces-
sary? Can they not reply to Jew
hatred directly without some
form of appeasement? Are non
Jews to conclude from this that
anti-Jewish attitudes result
from the advocacies of Rabbi
Kahane? Are Jews also being
persuaded to believe it?
Let me remind the self-
appointed Jewish "leadership"
and those they hire to speak for
them on behalf of the Jewish
community: Jew hatred existed
long before Rabbi Kahane, and
its thrived on the ghetto mental-
ity of our spokesmen.
