Washington — Morrie Rys-
kind, comedy writer and satirist,
died Aug. 24 at age 89.
Mr. Ryskind was a co-author
of the musical, Of Thee I Sing,
which won a 1932 Pulitzer Prize
for drama, and wrote or collabo-
rated on several screenplays and
Marx Brothers films.
He left writing comedy in the
1940s to concentrate on political
articles and was affiliated with

will receive the Jewish National
Fund's prestigious "Tree of Life"
award.
The "Tree of Life" award,
JNF's highest honor, is given in
recognition of outstanding pro-
fessional, community, and
humanitarian leadership. The
award symbolizes the renewal of
Israel's land through the work
of JNF, the agency responsible
for afforestation and land de-
velopment in Israel.

Theresa Laine, a member of
Jewish organizations in Detroit
and Florida, died Aug. 20 at age"
92.
A resident of Hollywood, Fla.,
at the time of her death, Mrs.
Laine was a member of Temple
Sinai in Hollywood and Hadas-
sah, Deborah group and Ameri-
can Mizrachi Women.
She is survived by a son,
Harold D. of San Diego, Calif.; a
daughter, Mrs. Herman
(Rosemarie) Goodman of Hol-
lywood, Fla.; five grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren.
Interment Miami, Fla.
