further,
Pat Diamond of Livonia,
a non-Jew, said she believed
that Israel was not to blame,
particularly since Israel had
already planed on releasing
its Shiite prisoners anyway,
They (Israel) were in the
process of letting them go
within a reasonable amount
of time, (The hijackers) used
Israel as an excuse „ They
(Israel) were scapegoats
either way,"
On Monday, Israel's ten-
member "Inner Cabinet"
voted to release 300 of the
735 Shiite prisoners this
week,
In a related development,
a Washington Post-ABC poll
found that 53 percent of its
respondents disagreed with
the statement, "the United
States should reduce its ties
to Israel in order to lessen
the acts of terrorism against
us in the Middle East," Some
31 percent agreed with the
statement, A total of 508
persons were interviewed in
a three-stage poll, •
Meanwhile, freed hostage
Allyn Conwell, responding to
reporters' questions, said
that he held no :11 will
against Israel for what hap-
pened,
"I don't bear a grudge
against anyone that led up to
these circumstances. I'd
rather, you know, emphasize
that many, many of these
circumstances we were all
ignorant. of, the circum-
stances that led up to this
thing. I bear no grudges."
Conwell said he hoped that
the prisoners detained by Is-
rael would soon be reunited
with their families "if indeed
they are not guilty of crimes
or if they are not legiti-
mately, legitimate war pris-
oners," Conwell said if they
are not guilty, then "we pray
for their freedom."
In New York, the Confer-
ence of Presidents of Major
American Jewish Organiza-
tions said that the Reagan
Administration did not exert
pressure on American Jews
to press Israel to release the
nearly 700 Shiites held at
the Atlit prison camp.
The Shiites imprisoned in
Israel have a champion in
former heavyweight boxing
champion Muhammad Ali.
All went to Israel last week
"to arrange for the freeing of
the Muslim brothers impris-
oned by Israel." The Israeli
administration declined to
discuss the matter with Ali,
but welcomed him as a pri-
vate guest.
