New Jewish Agenda
Meets In Ann Arbor
Ronnie Gilbert
The New Jewish Agenda will
hold its first national convention
July 18-21 in Ann Arbor.
The convention will begin at 8
p.m. July 18 with a concert by
Ronnie Gilbert and Si Kahn at
the Michigan Theater. There is
an admission charge.
A free program on "Hillel's
Second Question: Rekindling
Our Visions" will be held at 9
p.m. July 19 at the University
of Michigan School of Public
Health Auditorium.
Panelists include Rabbi
Leonard Beerman, senior rabbi,
Leo Baeck Temple, Los Angeles,
Calif.; Rabbi Laura Geller, di-
rector, University of Southern
California Hillel; and Ruth Mes-
singer, New York City Council
member and vice chairman of
the Democratic Socialists of
America.
The Lydia Mendelssohn Thea-
ter will be the scene of a pro-
gram on "Personal Reflections
on Being a Progressive Jew" at
8 p.m. July 20.
Speakers include Ed Asner,
Emmy Award-winning TV actor
and president of the Screen Ac-
tors Guild; Adrienne Rich,
feminist poet; and Rabbi Mar-
shall T. Meyer, international
human rights advocate.
Other speakers include Ar-
thur Waskow, director of the
Shalom Center; author Lawr-
ence Bush; and Ann Arbor
Jewish Community leaders
Tikva Frymer-Keneky and
Michael Brooks.
The public is invited to all

DR. JACK STARMAN of
Farmington Hills was honored
at a luncheon at Jacques Sun-
day on the occasion of his 70th
birthday. The luncheon also was
the occasion to mark the 44th
anniversary of Dr, and Mrs.
(Evelyn) Starman,
On hand to help celebrate
were the couple's daughters,
Carole DeRoven, Leslie Fried-
man, Shelley Starman-Onsrud
of North Carolina and Cindy.
The Stamm, have six grand-
children.
