Teens Will Share
Their B'nai Mitzvah
Scott Glickman, son of Dr. Ste-
ven and Brenda Glickman, of
West Bloomfield, and Armand
Banooni, son of Dr. Firooz and
Rana Banooni of Bloomfield
Township, will share their b'nai
mitzvah Saturday at Cong.
Shaarey Zedek with Benjamin
Berenfeld of Moscow.
Benjamin's parents, Mark and
Evgenia Berenfeld, applied to
leave the Soviet Union in 1976.
Berenfeld, a mathematician, was
refused officially because he did
not have relatives in Israel whose
relationship was "close enough,"
but, unofficially, the Berenfelds
say that permission for emigra-
tion was denied because Mrs. Be-
renfeld's parents have withheld
permission for their daughter to
leave, fearing repercussions that
consent would have on their own
lives.
Prof. Benenfeld was one of 22
scientists who signed an appeal to
the European Physical Society
stating, "It is the continuation of
the same political pressure that
aims at our absolute isolation,
and at our scientific death. We
urge the E.P.S. that if it gives in to
pressure it will be to the detri-
ment of such basic principles of
civilization as the right of a scien-
tist to be independent in his scien-
tific work."
By sharing their b'nai mitzvah
with Benjamin, who is unable to
be called to the Torah himself,
Scott and Armand hope to pub-
licize the plight of Soviet Jews.
They are asking the congregation
to send letters of congratulation
to: The Berenfeld Family, Malaya
Schukinskava 17/50, Moscow
123098, RSFSR, USSR.
Teen Will Twin
Her Bat Mitzvah
Gabrielle Fleischer will twin
the observance of her bat mitzvah
celebration Saturday at Adat
Shalom Synagogue with Adina
Muleris, the daughter of Chaim
and Basia Muleris of Kaunas,
Lithuanian, USSR.
Muleris is a radio engineer and
his wife, a doctor. They have been
refused visas on the grounds of
army service even though Muleris
was demobilized seven years ago.
Muleris' parents are in Israel.
Sisters To Mark
B'not Mitzvah
Hillary and Shawn Benjamin,
daughters of Dr. Kenneth Benja-
min and Susan Benjamin, and
granddaughters of Ethel Benja-
min and Jeanette Auslander will
celebrate their b'not mitzvah on
June 22 at Cong. Sherith Israel,
San Francisco, Calif.
Randy Green
Twins Bar Mitzvah
Randy Green twinned his bar
mitzvah with Evgeny Pekar of
Russia at Shabbat services Satur-
day at Cong. Beth Abraham Hillel
Moses.
Randy is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Larry Green of Oak Park.
