Troy Jewish Congregation will
receive a plaque stating that it is
an official member of the Reform
movement at 7:45 p.m. today at
the Lutheran Church of the Mas-
ter, 3333 Coolidge, Troy.
Rabbi David S. Hachen-will pre-
sent the plaque. His talk is titled
"An Offering Unto the Lord."
The public is welcome, and an
Oneg Shabbat follows.
As regional rabbi of the North-
east Lakes Council of the Union of
American Hebrew Congrega-
tions, Rabbi Hachen is the re-
source person for 66 congrega-
tions in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio,
eastern Pennsylvania, and the
western section of New York.
He was ordained at the Hebrew
Union College — Jewish Institute
of Religion in Cincinnati in 1952.
He maintains a tie with the col-
lege as a visiting lecturer for the
college on rabbinic field work
supervision.
Rabbi Hachen received his doc-
torate in education in 1961 from
Columbia University. After that
he served for almost 10 years on
the Commission on Jewish Edu-
cation of the Central Conference
of American Rabbis and the
Union of American Hebrew Con-
gregations. He's also been a chap-
lain in the U.S. Navy and rabbi to
congregation in New York, Con-
necticut and Ohio.

Reform Movement

The Temple Emanu-El Adult
Choir, directed by Cantor Nor-
man Rose, will perform a Shabbat
service composed by Bonia Shur,
director of liturgical arts at the
Cincinnati campus of the Hebrew
Union CollegeJewish Institute of
Religion on March 22 at 8:15 p.m.
Accompanying the presenta-
tion are: Joe Jackston, organist;
Barbara Kellerman, flutist; and
Sidney Blair, clarinetist.
The community is invited.

Synagogue Has
New Director

Cong. Beth Shalom announces
the appointment of Charles M.
Gordon as executive director.
Prior to coming to Beth Shalom,
Gordon served as a regional direc-
tor for B'nai B'rith in Chicago,
Minneapolis, Winnipeg and most
recently as executive director of
Metropolitan Detroit Council.
Gordon has served as treasurer
of the Oakland Branch of the
American Civil Liberties Union
for four years and is a member of
the B'nai B'rith Maurice C. Zeiger
Lodge.
