Alex Blumenberg, chairman of
the Israel Independence Day cele-
bration, sponsored by the Jewish
Community Council, has an-
nounced two events to mark the
observance of Israel's 37th birth-
day.
On April 23, a program com-
memorating Yom HaZikaron, the
memorial day for those who fell in
Israel's wars, is being planned
with the involvement of local
Jewish youth and the Israeli
community. Israeli shaliach Be-
nnie Schwarz reports that the
program will include a
candlelighting ceremony, musical
performances and a speaker from
Israel.
April 28 will be devoted to an
afternoon of family fun at the
main Jewish Community Center.
The event will feature greetings
from Israel's Consul to the Mid-
west, Emanuel Zippori and the
entertainment of the musical
troupe "Dud Reim." There will be
booths with Israeli food and prod-
ucts available for sale. Flowers,
toys, greeting cards, eyeglass
frames, candies, jewelry, artwork
and telephones are among the
items planned for display.
Special children's programm-
ing will include Israel's birthday
cake, arts and crafts, and an "El
Al" paper airplane contest. There
will also be entertainment by
local song and dance troupes, and
continuous Israeli movies.
All Council member organiza-
